Day 195 - 15th August 2010

Both Si and I are helping out on the last day of Reef Check.  The student Anousha did very well in all of her academics and in the afternoon we headed out to 'Lighthouse Bay' to actually do a shallow and deep Reef Check survey.

After the transect lines had been laid, I buddied up with Anousha for the first dive to do the fish survey which we took very slowly in order not to scare any potential fish away.

Lighthouse bay has an amazing array of corals and it's hardly dived which was nice, being the only boat on the dive site.  In the fish survey, not all fish are counted  ..only certain types according to the region you're in so it gives you a record of how healthy, diverse the reef is.

Our second dive was a 'Japanese Gardens'  this dive really was a fun dive as we'd completed the Reef Check, so we took our coral watch cards out to record the colouration of the corals.  This info is then transfered onto a global database, stating coordinates, depth and general conditions.

In the evening, the Crystal crew gathered at Koh Tao Gardens for a bbq & drinks.

We retired early so Si could get packed for his trip to the mainland tomorrow.
