22nd May 2016

Hello everyone!
We've just got back from a lovely mini break / visa run to Hong Kong.   The journey there was smooth, we had to catch the early morning ferry (6.30am) Seatran to Koh Samui and jump in a taxi to the airport.  The flight was only 3 1/2 hours which went by pretty quickly.  I caught up on some good ole mind numbing Eastenders   :-D   We sailed though passport control, collected our luggage and caught a taxi to the 'Butterfly Hotel' on Prat, in Kowloon which was going to be home for the next four nights.
Our room
It was in a very convenient location.  Just a a few minutes of the MTR which was very speedy and efficient.   Hong Kong was very clean, not at all what I expected.  I found it particularly odd jumping into a lift to get to a restaurant, cafe, bar etc  ...so strange to see different themes as the lift doors opened and people exited.  I suppose when you're short on space, that's what you've got to do.

This photo was taken from the lift
Our first afternoon/evening there, we did a bit of exploring.  Luckily for me, I had Simon and Simon had a phone that the hotel provided which had a good guide of  Hong Kong, places to visit, how to get there etc.

Some photo's of our Hong Kong experience.

11th May 2016

Simon’s been working hard.

About a week ago, he completed some Freedive training with some other staff members. They had a great 2 days, reaching the maximum allowed for the first course of 16m deep.

Simon is the upside down person, in case you can't recognise him.

After his training he was straight back into teaching an Open Water Course, which he started with Carsten (crazy German).  After the 2nd day which was the confined session, his head was burnt to a crisp.   On the third day, Carsten developed tooth ache so couldn’t continue, so the students were split, some remained with Simon (4) and the rest (3) were given to another instructor.

They all seemed pretty nice.  Two of them went on to do the Advanced Course, which Simon was over the moon about …not!   :-D

They completed the course yesterday, and Simon managed to finally get a day off (to catch up on everything else!).

More Eco work for Jenny, who has been deploying new structures, and diving with New Heaven to see our faces that were sculptured last year..

6 more days, and we head to Hong Kong for visa purposes... and maybe visit Disneyland!!

02 May 2016

Since our last blog, Simon has taught a 'Self Reliant' which means you can dive on your own after the course with a little pony tank, a Marine Resource Management 5 day course and a few days have been spent on repairing his drone and working on the Crystal website with Carsten, so there's been no rest for him.
Panda Coral Nursery built during MRM Course

I've been working with the DMT's collecting coral eating snails called 'Drupella's, organising dive site clean ups, transplanting corals for 'Adopt A Coral' and I've also helped a couple of the DMT's make structures for our in-house artificial reef, Junk yard after being inspired by Simons MRM student Han Song's panda.
