So folks...
Pops finally showed up after 5 years of us being on this island!
He arrived on the afternoon ferry which 18kg of shopping that I had asked him to bring.!!
Twiglets, Peanuts, Pot Noodles, Veggie Hot Dogs, Falafel Mix, English Mustard etc etc etc.... ooooh I am in heaven!!.
Also, he brought my brand new ScubaPro X Black BCD which I have been in serious need of since my old BCD is leaking badly and torn to shreds. I shall set it up with my self reliant equipment in the next few days and take it out for a dive. There are lots of green eyes staring at this tasty piece of kit now!
After Dad and Kate checked in at the Koh Tao Regal, we met at the poolside bar for quick couple of Singhas...
Then it was time for me to have a business meeting at Crystal before meeting up with them again and heading to dinner at Whitening...
During our meal, a whopper of a storm came in which trapped us there for a couple of hours! Finally, the rain chilled and Jen and I shot home to escape the next bout of rain...
Waking up this morning, its another sunny day :-)

Hey peeps,
Well, island life is getting quiet... It usually does at this time of year, but I think tourism is being affect by the country being under military rule.
How else has it affected us? Well, we had 2 days where major tv channels were cut off... but sports were back on last night, so I managed to get to watch the Formula 1. BBC and CNN however are still offline...
In the last couple of days I have been helping Jen with a Wreck Speciality course. Since Jen is not qualified, she is essentially learning from me, and will get certified to teach the course afterwards.
Yesterday, I took out some new equipment on the dive (called a pony bottle) that will enable me to dive safely on my own... it was working perfectly and I look forward to using it later this week.
The Wreck Spec ends today with a final dive penetrating the HTMS Sattakut... Jenny has never been inside so it should be an exciting day for her.
The weather is still blistering, the coral is bleaching (again!) and the sunsets are gorgeous...

Another day off!!!
Simon today was meeting Steve and prepping the camera's to go out diving and to play with the 'White Balance' on Steve's new camera.
As I wasnt up to much, I though it a fantastic idea to do some more exploring of the island and go to Mango Bay and maybe meet Si as the boat was doing a double dive there.
So after Simon left to meet Steve, I pottered in the house for another half hour and then headed out on my bike. I knew that I'd only cycle to the top of Sairee as the hills were too steep. Parking my bike at the bottom on my first major hill I slowly made my way up. Boy it was hot and this time I was clever enough to bring some water with me. Stopping from time to time in the shade, just to cool off I followed the sign (the ONLY sign I saw) for Mango Bay which led along a sandy track and then changed into concrete which went up yet another hill. So as I plodded, I thought to myself that it would take me no time at all to reach the bay and I'd snorkel out to the Crystal boat and have a cuppa and chat and then snorkel back into the beach and walk back.
Three hours later and absolutely drenched in sweat ...I'd walked non stop, up some of the steepest and longest hill I've come across, no poxy signs, on conquering the steepest of hills where I nearly passed out ...I was told that Mango was only 2km away ..surely not I thought. So plodding on I came to a view point where I was told I was going the wrong way and so turned around and walk back down part of the hill ..Oh my knees!!!
What turned out as a very good plan just got worse. I followed a road downward, stopping occasionally thinking that if this is wrong, I'll have to walk back up, but seeing I'd come so far, I couldn't turn back ..the road turned into a gravel road, then, into a little gravel path
which went down and down and I finally saw signs of life ...bikes, a sign which said 'camping site' ..so I followed the man made steps across rocks, down make shift ladders and then heard men shouting ..I don't know why but I turned around ..clambered my way back up to where the bikes were parked and for a moment or two, was going to steal a bike ! I couldn't bare the thought of walking back up the hill ..then some clarity came into my head, if I stolen one, there was no way I would have made it in one piece ...I had to walk on tiptoes most of the way as it was so steep. Texting Si, Hot, tired, calves burning and non knowing really where I was ..I was almost in tears, so I text Si ..NO RECEPTION!!! ARGHH!!!! ...so with that I dragged my feet ALL the way back ..I was not happy LOL

We've both had the last few days off. Things have very quiet at Crystal which has been nice. I think once the Full Moon party goers hit Koh Tao today/tomorrow it'll be a different story.
I've spent the lasts few days pottering about on the bike, swimming, a little bit of snorkeling and generally spending time away from Crystal. It's good to take a break and I think I needed some ME time.
Yesterday I left the house and did a bit more exploring of the island ..I decided to go to Hin Wong Bay which is on the south east of the island
We have been there a few times with the dive boat, but I've never cycled there. I must admit that the hill climbs were a bit too steep and went on forever, so I left my bike and walked the majority of the way. I didn't feel so bad when I saw some motorbikes struggle up the hill.
The beach itself wasn't fantastic, very gravelly and rocky. With what I could see, there were only a couple of beach bungalows and a small bar. I don't think that many people call in to have lunch/drinks ..the road in was definitely for the more experienced bike riders.
I do think it was rather cheeky for the bar to charge 50bht /buy a drink to use the beach.

I've been working non stop for the last few days ...I've done DSD's (Discover Scuba) back to back, followed by a quick Open Water Course with a lovely Dutch Couple and last night, finished an Advanced Open Water with a night dive
Students happy, logs books signed and stamped, mission completed.
Eager to get home, we ordered a takeaway pizza from Hacienda.
Poor ole Si, he was shattered ..once he'd eaten, his pizza, he passed out.
Today we are off!!!! :-D
I slept in till nearly 1.30pm, I haven't done that in months. Obviously needed it :-D I think Si was up around 6am but as I type, he's asleep on the couch next to me.
It's so hot today and I'm just considering whether or not to go to Crystal to fetch my bike.
Decisions decisions..

1st May 2014
Finally finished with my last set of students and have had a day off to relax :-D I'm not complaining as I needed to get back to work to earn some money after nearly 3 weeks off :-D
It has been non stop as Simon said and the time has flown.
Our few days in Samui for Tina's birthday came at the right time. Everything seemed gloomy with all the family gone and I wasn't in the best of moods, poor ole Si. The novelty/distraction of being able to go to the cinema, walk around a hugeTesco Lotus and try different restaurants was a boost that we both needed.
I can't quite believe that it's May aready. It seems like a lifetime ago that Rosie was here and months since Chris, Fiona, Chloe and Iona visited. Time does fly!! On my day off I ended up going for a cycle past Haad Tien Resort (resort where Fi & Chris stayed) but didn't in the slightest want to go in as no one was there :-( ..so I carried on up the hill, in the blistering heat towards Jamakiri Resort and took this photo
Today, I assisted Carsten (the mad German) on a Navigation Speciality course ..it was really good fun, slightly like a treasure hunt under water ..so I think I'll pay PADI to add this to my list of specialities that I can teach.
Tomorrow, I've got a one person DSD which, fingers crossed will be easy!! :-D
Chris, here's a photo for you. Sorry about the quality, it was taken with my phone just by Crystal
