24th July 2013

Glad to say that my back is nearly recovered.   Simon took me to see a Chiropractor yesterday and he certainly cracked all that there was to crack  ..which certainly loosened things up.

As the weather's been unpredictable and it's been impossible for the Longtail (boat) to go out, Si's been able to take time off  but he's still full on with his UK work.

For the first time in ages, he's been able to lie in, not that he really does, as he always up early working on something or other.

Anyway, what have we done?    ...well we had lunch with our friend Tim in Sairee at 'Through the looking glass'  It's a tiny shop/bakery where they do lovely fresh rolls, made to order, pasties and a great selection pastries/cakes.  There's only a couple of tables outside in which to sit as it's mostly takeaway.

After lunch, we cruised past the Aquamaster shop, to pick up my regulator, as it was in for repair and then went on to check out a house for rent  ....the manager or whatever he was seemed nice, showed us around, apologized for the state it was in (smell & dirt wise) ..it was a lot bigger and even though it it was messy, nicer than I'd anticipated  ..nearing the end of our viewing, another chap came in to view it and only then did the chap say that this guy had first dibs and that he's let us know  ..since then we've not heard a word.  I've text and called the chap but still no response  ..pretty annoying to be honest.

In the evening, we had a staff meeting to attend, seeing it's coming up to busy/crazy season, we need to work together,  Hopefully for the next 5/6 weeks, everything will run like clockwork but I doubt it!

Meeting over, a few drinks at the bar and then 'Cafe Del Sol' for takeaway dinner...

20th July 2013

Not much has happened with me.  I've been at home, watching various tv (elementary, The impossible, big brother) series, films and drinking lots of tea.  My back has eased off a bit, Im now able to get up in less than 10 seconds and I've been doing various exercises which I've found on the internet for my back, for the sciatic nerve ...not sure whether it's helping but it's only day 2 :-D

Si on the other hand has had a nightmare few days.  Finishing off with the school kids, attending bowling and bbq's which were mandatory and then yesterday, he started another Open Water.  With a sore back, sinus issues and just being absolutely shattered he's not a happy bunny.  I've only seen him to talk to for an hour at a time, if that  ...the rest of the time he's been asleep  ..oh and to top things off, tonight he's on late shift till 8pm .

18th July 2013

It's been a funny ole time.  I had a couple of ex students that came back to finish off their Advanced course, just doing Navigation and Peak Performance Buoyancy which went really well.  On the way back on the boat, I picked up a piece of plastic to put in the bin and put my back out  ..great!!!

After several massages (been to see a woman who works on all the Mauy Thai guys) it was feeling stiff but feeling much looser   ..so with a small break, I decided Id be ok and take part in the kids Open Waters  ...the confined pool session went OK  ..it was very hectic and with 46 odd kids, plus instructors in the pool, we had to stagger who was doing what  (deep, shallow skills) but it worked out ...and my back was feeling OK.
Simon was on a different schedule, he was doing 'Advanced' with some of the kids but we were both out on the morning boats. As the school kids schedule was so tight, it's been a really stressful period for everyone, the logistics is just a nightmare, not that I've really been involved, as i've not been able to help much, not being able to lift anything  ..Anyway, the next morning, what seemed like hundreds of kids mulling around Crystal, students were found, bags were checked for equipment and we headed down to the boat.  All the kids stem from 15 - 18 but my group of 6, look like 10/12yr olds. ...one of the girls is so petite, that my arms are huge in comparison to her legs and struggles even lifting the equipment even though she's a baby tank on her back.
Briefing done, kitted up, I climbed into the water to put my kit on I asked another instructor to demo the Giant stride off the boat as I just didnt want to chance straining my back  ..in the water to start with the kids were a nightmare ..everywhere, up/down but the last 10 mins, they all seemed to get their buoyancy and I was happy..  on they surface they completed their skills and got back on the boat ..I took my kit off in the water and climbed up the ladder  ..and my back went again  ..joy  ...so since then I've been out of the water and feel like a 200yr old as getting up or sitting down is a painful process  ...poor ole Si's been suffering too, with a bad back,UK work and last night had to sleep on the couch as he didnt want to disturb me  ..argh, he's my hero!!

10th July 2013

Visa run went well.

It was the first time where the minibus driver didn't drive like a lunatic which was refreshing.  The only bad bit about it was the night ferry back to the island... Tiny matresses on the floor right above the engine which sounded like a pneumatic drill.  Other than that, it was the normal quick visa run, quite refreshing after the Open Water course (family of 4, parents and 2 kids, 10 & 11) which lasted 5 days and even then, the kids had to complete 2 more dives with someone else.  Looking back it was very messy.  What was even more ridiculous was that I was team teaching with Steve, a new instructor which should have saved time  ..oh well, just one of those bad courses.  They had fun though LOL

The last couple of days I've been diving with a girl who's doing an ECO Intern, which has been fun and easy, so that's made up for the week from hell :-D and Simon has been diving with ex students from last year conducting their Deep Specialty...

A busy week coming up with 60ish kids arriving from the UK and the experienced instructor on the mission to get them all through the Open Water Course.!!

We shall see.. they should arrive in a few days... in the meantime, more eco... and maybe squeezing another course in..
